Donna Karan, Robert Wilson

Robert Wilson’s Watermill Center played host to guests in the creative coo of theater, arts, and fashion. In welcoming the new building, the gala was celebrated in style with a cocktail reception, dinner, and live and silent auctions, along with performances and installations by artists Andrey Bartenev, Laurent Berger, Tania Bruguera, Cao Fei, and Vadim Fishkin.

A visual rendering of a painting by Robert Wilson (who has done video portraits for the likes of Brad Pitt, Winona Ryder, and Princess Caroline) went for a whopping $120,000. But that wasn’t Wilson’s only buzz around the benefit—the following night gave the guests a sneak-peek screening of Katharina Otto-Bernstein’s documentary Absolute Wilson, which details the accomplishments and adversities of the famed, forward-thinking director.

Supporters included: Donna Karan, Tatum O’Neal, Annie Leibowitz, Isabella Rossellini, Leelee Sobieski, Lou Reed, Veronica Hearst, Martha Wainwright, Beth Rudin DeWoody, Alex and Carol Rosenberg, Simon de Pury, and Debbie Bancroft.

An art-full evening.
