Literacy Partners added another chapter to its book of success with An Evening of Readings at Lincoln Center. Liz Smith, Arnold Scassi, and Parker Ladd were honored for their invaluable leadership, along with chair Cathy Black, making this an evening to remember.

Co-authors Lee and Bob Woodruff delighted the audience by reading from their best seller, In an Instant. Bob, co-anchor of ABC's World News Tonight, was injured on assignment in Iraq when a roadside bomb struck his vehicle; the book looks at their lives together after the attack, and has created out-rage over the poor manner in which we treat our wounded veterans.

Throughout the evening Alexander McCall Smith, Vanessa Redgrave, Peter Morgan, and surprise guest Bette Midler took turns in a session of celebrity readings, helping to raise $1.2 mil to sup-port programs that teach reading, writing, and math skills to the less fortunate.

Among the glitterati: Barbara Walters, Frank Langella, Somers and Jonathan Farkas, Lesley Stahl, Ann Dexter Jones, Peter Brown, Cynthia McFadden, Hilary Geary and Wilbur Ross, Jackie Rogers, Mario Buatta, Angie Miller, James Niven, David Granoff, Jamee Gregory, Leslie Klotz, and Mary McBride.
