Liz Smith, Mayor Mike Bloomberg, Arnold Scaasi
What do Barbara Walters and Yoko Ono have in common? These two leading ladies were among the bookish bunch at Literacy Partners' annual gala, "An Evening of Readings." The New York State Theater was the venue of choice for this celebration of family learning.

The enlightening event honored Department of Education Chancellor Joel Klein and his wife, Nicole Seligman, an EVP at Sony Corporation, as well as ABC News President David Westin and his wife, Sherrie Rollins Westin, EVP and Chief Marketing Officer for Sesame Workshop.

"Literacy opens the door of opportunity in life," said Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who kicked off the evening-co-chaired and emceed by beloved columnist Liz Smith-with his remarks. A series of readings from seasoned authors Nora Ephron, Michael Cunningham, and Augusten Burroughs was followed by wining, dining, and dancing, as the band played while A-listers kicked up their shoes on the dance floor including: Diana Taylor, David Patrick Columbia, and event co-chairs Arnold Scaasi and Parker Ladd, Louise Grunwald, Sir Howard Stringer, Pete Peterson, Lesley Stahl, Helen Gurley Brown and David Brown, Audrey Gruss, Barbara Taylor Bradford, Amanda Burden, Jamee Gregory, and Hilary Aylesworth.

A lit hit!
