The Big Get at the United Cerebral Palsy (UCP) Women Who Care luncheon at Cipriani 42nd Street turned out to be former surgeon cum Award-Couture Jewelry designer Gayle Grenadier’s $25,000 hand-carved 19 karat gold and flawless diamond cuff depicting a 1st century AD Assyrian scene. After suffering a devastating accident during a surgical procedure that would end her medical career she turned lemons into diamonds and gold, getting her start by restoring ancient jewelry for the MET.

Chairs Cathleen Black and Loreen Arbus and co-chair Joan Jedell, along with guests including emcee Donna Hanover, Patricia Duff, Denise Rich, Francine LeFrak, honoree Dan Rather, Paula Zahn, Ellen Levine, Susan Fales-Hill, all enjoyed Tepper Galleries auctioneer Ken Hutter’s showmanship over Grenadier’s cuff which started a bidding war. Needless to say the organization was thrilled with the donation the bejeweled cuff brought to support UCP programs and services, making this year’s event a rousing success.
