The top female power brokers in NYC convened at The Waldorf for the annual New York Women in Communications, Inc. (NYWICI), Matrix Awards Luncheon: “Women Who Change the World,” this year hosted by The New York Times.

The Matrix Awards honor eight outstanding women in the fields of advertising, arts and entertainment, books, broadcasting, magazines, newspapers, online media, and public relations.

HBO’s Carolyn Strauss presented and accepted the Matrix Award in arts and entertainment for an absent Edie Falco. Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton presented lawyer and author Linda Fairstein with the Matrix Award for books; talk show maven Oprah Winfrey awarded the magazine Matrix Award to Amy Gross, editor in chief of O, The Oprah Magazine; and Tina Brown did the honors for CNN Chief International Correspondent Christiane Amanpour, for broadcasting. Also receiving Matrix Awards: McCann Erickson Chair Nina DiSesa, for advertising; Pearson PLC Chief Exec Marjorie Scardino, for newspapers; Yahoo! Chief Sales Officer Wenda Harris Millard, for online media; and Procter & Gamble Senior VP Charlotte Otto, for public relations.

In attendance: Barbara Corcoran, Martha Stewart, Helen Gurley Brown, Cindi Leive, Paula Zahn, Lesley Stahl, Donna Hanover, Mary Alice Williams, Gayle King, The Early Show’s Harry Smith, Renee Syler, Julie Chen, and Hannah Storm.
