The London Symphony Orchestra held its latest New York Gala at the Metropolitan Club. The evening put the 75th candle on the birthday cake of Sir Colin Davis, Principal Conductor of the fabulously gifted LSO.

Lovely long candles and delicate spring flowers, provided by Color of Magic, enchanted guests as they gazed over the Big Apple. A sense of romantic gentility filled the room as invitees greeted His Royal Highness the Duke of Gloucester (representing Her Majesty the Queen).

The intimate gathering experienced a treasured recital by vocalists Petra Lang, Ben Heppner, Sara Mingardo, and Alastair Miles; and if that wasn’t enough, Alexander Janiczek, LSO’s first violinist, treated us to a performance that would have to be described as “a sublime and rare treat.”

American “royalty” included co-chairs April and Roddy Gow, Mai Harrison, and Gail Hilson; and guests Lyn Paulsin, Ron Silver, Georgette Mosbacher, and Sir Howard Stringer—whose corporation (Sony) underwrote the unforgettable event.
