Hellenic heroes from all over the city gathered for a grand gala at the Marriott Marquis to honor actor Frank Dicopoulos of Guiding Light and Iowa philanthropist (and East Sider) John Pappajohn. Over 1,200 attendees showed their support for the Hellenic Times Scholarship Fund, which raises bucks for students nationwide. Mayoral hopeful John Catsimatidis, along with his wife Margo, chaired the event while Nick Katsoris served as Dinner Chair.

Ernie Anastos, Nick Gregory, Rita Cosby, American Idol’s Constantine Maroulis, and Curtis and Mary Sliwa lent their support, while Nia Vardalas (My Big Fat Greek Wedding), John Stamos (ER), and Melina Kanakaredes (CSI-NY) gave presentations. Tireless superstar Kathy Sledge of Sister Sledge fame provided energetic entertainment.

“It is so wonderful when we are all gathered here to help education,” Anastos said. “There is no greater reward than helping our youth.” Plato couldn’t have put it better.
