Brooke Shields and daughter Rowan
Brooke Shields (with daughter Rowan on hand) had hosting honors at the opening day of the annual invitation-only Mercedes-Benz Polo Challenge. Amid the splendor of the Hamptons summer scene, the finest of equestrian athletes galloped into gear to strut their stuff in competition for one of the sport’s most coveted prizes.

Flocking to the Bridgehampton Polo Club were Hamptonites, celebs, and media mavens all watching from the ultra-exclusive VIP tent, where the social set schmoozed while nibbling on hors d’oeuvres and sipping cocktails—which seemed to take up more of the event than the polo itself.

Janice Dickinson was in the mix, and gabbed on the nasty Brinkley break-up. “That pig!” she bellowed to Extra (which was probably cut), referring to Peter Cook. “How dare he!?” The mouthy model (who has her own reality show, The Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency) continued, “My daughter is the same age as that little slut [Diana Bianchi],” and spouted off, “I’d be in jail because I’d kill my daughter if she did that!”

Also enjoying the opening-week festivities were Anna Anisimova, Chris and Michelle Barish, Cornelia Guest, Joe Gannascoli, Keith Barish, Kelly Killoren Bensimon, Kimberly Guilfoyle, Lauren Ezersky, Marjorie Gubelmann Raein, Neil Hirsch, and Peter Brandt.

Second-week carousing kicked off with host Heather Graham launching Gold Peak (a new premium iced tea from the Coca-Cola Company).

We caught up with Samantha Cole (who once dated Peter Cook), who gabbed about her thoughts on the scandal: “Well, 19 is not what it used to be—it’s not that young! And I don’t go for that ‘sexual harassment’ thing that Diana Bianchi has been insinuating!” We wondered if Peter was mad at her for coming out about their relationship, but she assured us, “No. He actually called me the other day.” And insisted, “He’s fine with it!” Yeah right!

In the mix: B. Smith, Benjamin Cho, Brittny Gastineau, Chloe Sevigny, Christina Applegate, Denise Vasi, Gayle King, Lawrence Bender, Paul Sevigny, Sky Nellor, Stacy Bendet, Stella Keitel, and Wynton Marsalis.

Another week featured sexy siren Jessica Biel (starring in The Illusionist) as host, and included Beth Ostrosky on crutches (who told us she broke her foot falling down the stairs in her Jimmy Choos), Kate Lee Joel (Billy’s wife, looking like a young brunette version of Christie), B. Smith, Cassandra Seidenfeld, and Chris Henchy.

Horsin’ around, Hamptons style!
