An all-star roster of Broadway luminaries lit up the stage at the Show Theatre for a performance benefiting Only Make Believe (OMB). Performing at the one-night-only revue: Hairspray’s Harvey Fierstein and Dick Latessa, Taboo’s Euan Morton, Jekyll and Hyde’s Christiane Noll, and Les Miserables’ Ann Runoltsson and Alix Corey (soon to appear in the musical All Shook Up). Also spotted enjoying the show and partying afterwards at Bryant Park Grill: Rosie O’Donnell with spouse, Kelli Carpenter.

Hosted by Hayley Mills and Brad Oscar, the event recognized Karen LeFrak with the 2004 James Hammerstein Award, in recognition of the animal-assisted therapy (often with her own retired show dogs) that she provides for children in need. LeFrak and her pets have evoked positive responses in movement, speech, and the cognitive skills of patients struggling with brain trauma and spinal cord injuries.

Dena Hammerstein founded OMB five years ago in memory of her late husband, James (son of the legend-ary Oscar), and his dedication to theater. The group brings the magic of live theater—through six-week interactive performance workshops—to hospital-bound kids, complete with costumes, props, and scenery (which are left behind for ongoing fun). Just what the doctor ordered!
