The stars were out at the opening of the highly anticipated Broadway revival of Evita, starring Ricky Martin and Elena Roger, at the Marquis Theater.
Celebrities in view included Gayle King, Barry Diller, Michael Douglas, Marlo Thomas and Phil Donahue, Kathy Griffin, Andy Cohen, Barbara Walters, Debra Messing, Vanessa Williams, and Jesse Tyler Ferguson.
It has been over 30 years since Evita was last on Broadway, and the wait was well worth it. The seminal hit, directed by Michael Grandage (whose recent NY projects include King Lear and Hamlet), is a blockbuster of a show with outstanding performances from Martin and Roger. The Latin pop singer plays narrator Che with outstanding charisma. Martin brings his signature moves to the Great White Way. While dancing a tango with Roger, he pulled off a sexy hip swivel, helping make Evita the season's hot box-office draw.
